Description: This feature set represent the current Priority Development Areas (PDA) for the San Francisco Bay Region. The geographies were adopted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Association of Bay Area Governments executive bodies on July 16, 2020.As the current, or active, version of PDAs in the region, this is where edits and updates will be applied over time. PDAs used for specific versions are maintained as separate features. Links to the Plan Bay Area specific versions are at the end of this section. This version of the PDAs were adopted as the official boundaries for planning related to Plan Bay Area 2050 (PBA 2050), and, for now, this feature services is the same as the one specific to the plan. In time, as updates are made, this version will move beyond what was used for PBA 2050.Changes included since the February 2020 update (these will be moved to Process Description section of metadata at next release):Attribute Table:The attribute table has been restructured again to remove one field and add another. The acres column was removed. The pba50_chng (PBA2050_Changes) column was added so information regarding whether the PDAs are a new PDA, a PDA whose boundary was modified since the last Plan Bay Area, or an existing PDA that was not modified. The PDAs are used by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to plan for development in the San Francisco Bay Region. PDAs represent areas local jurisdictions have identified, as part of the region's Sustainable Communities Strategy work, for new and/or intensified development. This PDA feature set can be used in general mapping and analysis related to the San Francisco Bay Region.DO NOT USE this feature layer for mapping or analysis related to earlier versions of Plan Bay Area. Data and feature layers for those PDA versions are available as separate resources.PDA feature sets specific to adopted Plan Bay Area plans can be found at:Plan Bay Area 2050 (2020) - Priority Development Areas (Plan Bay Area 2050)Plan Bay Area 2040 (2017) - Priority Development Areas (Plan Bay Area 2040)Plan Bay Area (2013) - Priority Development Areas (Plan Bay Area)

Description: This flood zone data should not be used for flood insurance purposes, but rather hazard mapping. Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) data retrieved directly from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) should be used for insurance programs. From FEMA:The FIRM is the basis for floodplain management, mitigation, and insurance activities for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Insurance applications include enforcement of the mandatory purchase requirement of the Flood Disaster Protection Act, which '... requires the purchase of flood insurance by property owners who are being assisted by Federal programs or by Federally supervised, regulated or insured agencies or institutions in the acquisition or improvement of land facilities located or to be located in identified areas having special flood hazards,' Section 2 (b) (4) of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973.In addition to the identification of Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs), the risk zones shown on the FIRMs are the basis for the establishment of premium rates for flood coverage offered through the NFIP. The FIRM Database presents the flood risk information depicted on the FIRM in a digital format suitable for use in electronic mapping applications. The FIRM Database serves to archive the information collected during the Flood Risk Project. The National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) data incorporates all FIRM databases published by the FEMA, and any Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs) that have been issued against those databases since their publication date. It is updated on a monthly basis. The FIRM Database is the digital, geospatial version of the flood hazard information shown on the published paper FIRMs.The FIRM Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The FIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published FIRMs, flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by FEMA.The NFHL is available as State or US Territory data sets. Each State or Territory data set consists of all FIRM Databases and corresponding LOMRs available on the publication date of the data set.The specification for the horizontal control of FIRM Databases is consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000. This file is georeferenced to the Earth's surface using the Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) and North American Dataum of 1983. Description: This is digital Seismic Hazard Zone features presenting areas where landslides may occur during a strong earthquake. This feature set was assembled from quadrangle-level feature sets, produced by the California Geological Survey (CGS), by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The most recent updates within this feature set were published on April 04, 2019 by CGS.Developers of properties falling within a landslide seismic hazard zone may be required to investigate the potential hazard and mitigate its threat during the local permitting process. This data is used by cities and counties to regulate development and by property owners selling property within areas where seismic hazard zones have been identified. Local governments can withhold development permits until geologic or soils investigations are conducted for specific sites and mitigation measures are incorporated into development plans. Sellers of property use the maps to check the location of their specific site and, if applicable, disclose to the buyer that the property lies within a seismic hazard zone as required by the Seismic Hazards Mapping Act of 1990 (Public Resources Code, Division 2, Chapter 7.8). For information regarding the scope and recommended methods to be used in conducting the required site investigations, see California Geological Survey Special Publication 117A, Guidelines for Evaluating and Mitigating Seismic Hazards in California.More information can be found on the California Geological Survey's Seismic Hazard Zonation Program website: https://www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs/shzp/Pages/shmprealdis.aspx

Description: This report presents a map and database of Quaternary deposits and liquefaction susceptibility for the urban core of the San Francisco Bay region. It supercedes the equivalent area of U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 00-444 (Knudsen and others, 2000), which covers the larger 9-county San Francisco Bay region. The report consists of (1) a spatial database, (2) two small-scale colored maps (Quaternary deposits and liquefaction susceptibility), (3) a text describing the Quaternary map and liquefaction interpretation (part 3), and (4) a text introducing the report and describing the database (part 1). All parts of the report are digital; part 1 describes the database and digital files and how to obtain them by downloading across the internet. The nine counties surrounding San Francisco Bay straddle the San Andreas fault system, which exposes the region to serious earthquake hazard (Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities, 1999). Much of the land adjacent to the Bay and the major rivers and streams is underlain by unconsolidated deposits that are particularly vulnerable to earthquake shaking and liquefaction of water-saturated granular sediment. This new map provides a consistent detailed treatment of the central part of the 9-county region in which much of the mapping of Open-File Report 00-444 was either at smaller (less detailed) scale or represented only preliminary revision of earlier work. Like Open-File Report 00-444, the current mapping uses geomorphic expression, pedogenic soils, inferred depositional environments, and geologic age to define and distinguish the map units. Further scrutiny of the factors controlling liquefaction susceptibility has led to some changes relative to Open-File Report 00-444: particularly the reclassification of San Francisco Bay mud (Qhbm) to have only MODERATE susceptibility and the rating of artificial fills according to the Quaternary map units inferred to underlie them (other than dams ? adf). The two colored maps provide a regional summary of the new mapping at a scale of 1:200,000, a scale that is sufficient to show the general distribution and relationships of the map units but not to distinguish the more detailed elements that are present in the database. The report is the product of cooperative work by the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) and National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program of the U.S. Geological Survey, William Lettis and & Associates, Inc. (WLA), and the California Geological Survey. An earlier version was submitted to the U.S. Geological Survey by WLA as a final report for a NEHRP grant (Witter and others, 2005). The mapping has been carried out by WLA geologists under contract to the NEHRP Earthquake Program (Grant 99-HQ-GR-0095) and by the California Geological Survey. For detailed information about the map the USGS has an open report, "Maps of Quaternary Deposits and Liquefaction Susceptibility in the Central San Francisco Bay Region, California.
